▣ Abstract :
In this talk, several attempts of REEL(Robots in Education and Entertainment Lab.) to develop and share a new type of robot contents in education and entertainment fields are introduced. The first work is the “Family Robot Contest,” and the second one is a R&D project named “UCR(User Created Robots).” In the UCR project, robot-based contents for supporting hands-on activities in elementary school classrooms have been developed. Also, a software platform named S!Ci(Smart !ideas for Creative interplay) is being developed, in which robots and multimedia can be programmed together to make new type of convergent contents. To encourage people’s participation who are not familiar with programming languages, and to allow them to focus on creating new ideas, the S!Ci employs a two-stage based programming scheme. At the high-level description stage, users can assign the interactions among physical robots and multimedia characters with intuitive user interfaces, whereas in the low-level description stage, very detailed events and behaviors of each object can be programmed with elementary building blocks.
