    “(Ph.D. process Kang )Bohyun and Lee Sangwook, and( Master’s process) Yoo Hyunseo (Prof. Baek Rokhyun (advisor)) at the Department of Electrical Engineering were awarded the Best Student Paper Award at the 7th IEEE EDTM (Electron Devices Technology and Manufacturing) Conference. This international academic conference discussed semiconductor manufacturing technology and equipment, and device performance enhancement. The conference was attended by over 800 people from 25 countries, and 375 papers were presented.

    Kang Bohyun, who won the award in the “Process, Tools, Yield, and manufacturing” section, was recognized for his excellence with the Best Student Award.

    Lee Sangwook, who won the award in the “Modeling and Simulation” section,  was recognized for his excellence with the Best Student Award.

    Yoo Hyunseo, who won the award in the “Reliability” section, was recognized for his excellence with the Best Student Award.”

    “Lee Kyung Min student in the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH, advised by Professor Kyungtae Kim, won the Excellent Paper Award at the “2023 Winter Annual Conference” hosted by the Korean Society of Electromagnetic Wave. The award was given for the paper titled “Analysis of Asynchronous Phenomena in Bi-static FMCW Radar Systems”.”

    The artificial intelligence semiconductor paper published by the research team of Professor Jung Yoon-young( integrated course Park Seong-min, PhD course student Sung Soo-won, and Jeon Kil-su) from the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH has been selected as the cover paper of the prestigious academic journal Advanced Electronic Materials in the field of semiconductor devices and materials.

    Title:  “Highly Linear and Symmetric Analog Neuromorphic Synapse Based on Metal Oxide Semiconductor Transistors with Self-Assembled Monolayer for High-Precision Neural Network Computation”

    POSTECH Department of Electrical Engineering Professor Wonbin Hong’s research team produced a reflector that stably transmits 5G radio waves to the receiver by adjusting the reflection angle of radio waves using paint and held a demonstration.

    Prof. Ho-Jin Song  won  the 2023 IEEE Microwave Magazine Best Paper Award   for his paper “Terahertz Wireless Communications: Recent Developments Including a Prototype System for Short-Range Data Downloading,” published in IEEE Microwave Magazine, vol. 22, no. 5, pp. 88-99, May 2021.

    Prof. Bumman Kim "2023 IEEE MTT-S Microwave Application Award"

    Prof. Bumman Kim(professor emeritus) received  the 2023 IEEE MTT-S Microwave Application Award for the creation of microwave amplifications for wireless applications.

    Prof. Bumman Kim received the B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering from Seoul National University in Korea and Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He joined the Central Research Laboratories, Texas Instruments Incorporated, where he was involved in development of GaAs power devices and related MMICs. He developed the first fully integrated millimeter-wave MMIC and the semiconductor based oscillator operation over 100 GHz. In 1989, he joined the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), where he was Dean of academic affairs, Dean of graduate school, Namko Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Director of the Microwave Application Research Center funded by Department of Defense. He was continued in his research work on device and circuit technology for RFICs and power amplifier. His group contributed to the Doherty amplifiers, ET amplifier, and CMOS PAs for mobile communication systems. He has authored over 500 technical papers in international journals and conferences. He is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). He is a member of Korean Academy of Science and Technology and National Academy of Engineering of Korea. He retired from POSTECH in February 2017.

    Prof. Wonbin Hong elected IEEE Fellow

    Prof. Wonbin Hong of the Department of Electrical Engineering has been elected as an IEEE Fellow effective January 1, 2023. His distinction is the first in the field of antennas in the Republic of Korea.

    The IEEE is the world’s leading professional organization, dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Today, the organization has more than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries. IEEE Fellow is a distinction reserved for select IEEE members whose extraordinary accomplishments in IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation. The distinction is awarded to fewer than 0.1$ of voting members annually and requires the member to have conducted research with major societal impacts that extend outside their specialty.
