◈ Place : LG Research Building, Room #101
◈ Host : Prof. Bumman Kim (Tel. 2231)
◈ Abstract : §In order to develop keen insight for mobile device market that is transforming at an incredible rate, we have reviewed recent advances and trends in the following areas; •Mobile Market •Platform Technology •Content & Service § First, the smartphone market is expected to grow rapidly as LTE networks have been built on carriers and vendors while showing a rapid increase in mobile data traffic. At the same stage, based on research for consumer usage habit and attitude, a majority of smartphone users are likely to require devices optimized for high performance system making various web & app services available. § Second, LTE network & Multi-core chipset are supposed to be the driving force behind the development of mobile platform technology. Otherwise, the advancement of high resolution display, high-end camera, low energy consuming battery, and biometric/or context aware sensors will play a critical role in differentiation of smartphone marketing. § Based on the technology progress, HD mobile video services(mainly Game &Movie) are likely to become the main stream for next mobile business. Instead, the 4G network environment enforces the diversity of mobile-driven cloud services while broadening the eco-system of N-screen market. §To sum up, since mobile users tend to consider mobile devices as a smart tool to consume mobile content through activities like web browsing, social networking, and watching video, a mobile device supplier should enhance cross-platform services for its devices and need to step up market-oriented insights in order to become a leading player in the smartphone market.

  • Robotics and Computer Vision Research in LG Electroncis

◈ Title : Robotics and Computer Vision Research in LG Electroncis
◈ Speaker : Dr. Jeongsuk Yoon (LG Electronics)
    ◈ Date & Time : Friday, May 20, 2011 (10:30am ~ 12:00am)
◈ Place : LG Research Building, Room #101
    ◈ Host : Prof. Se-Young Oh (Tel. 2214)
◈ Abstract : Over the past few years, vacuum-cleaning robots have helped out a lot on your daily housework. However, a less advanced automated vacuum cleaner that navigates randomly until it faces an obstacle could not satisfy the customer‘s demand. For this reason, LG has created a new vacuum-cleaning robot  called LG HomBot that uses a unique combination of dual cameras, ultrasonic and infrared sensors to enable faster and more efficient cleaning of a home environment while building an environmental map accurately. In this talk, a summary of the most updated research activities regarding robotics  and computer vision are presented, especially focusing on HomBot.

  • System-level” signal integrity analysis of high-speed links

▣ Title : “System-level” signal integrity analysis of high-speed links

▣ Speaker : Dong Gun Kam (Ajou University)

    ▣ Date & Time : Friday, December 13 (4:00 ~ 5:30pm)

▣ Place : LG Research Building, Room #101

    ▣ Host : Prof. ByungSub Kim (T. 2382)

    ▣ Abstract :

In only the last several years, industry standard serial data rates have rocketed past 10 Gb/s and are quickly approaching 25 Gb/s and higher for backplane and chip-to-chip interconnects. Such high data rates present huge challenges in the design of both passive channel elements such as IC packages, sockets, board material and connectors, and active SERDES devices on system ICs.

This seminar will discuss a range of topics important in the design and analysis of high-speed links from a holistic standpoint, considering I/O circuits and architectures, and including all levels of electrical packaging.

  • Quick SAR measurement system by 2D array E-field sensors

▣ Title : Quick SAR measurement system by 2D array E-field

    sensors

    Speaker

    : YoonMyoung Gimm (Dankook University)

    Date

    & Time : Friday, December 6 (4:00

    ~ 5:30pm)

    Place

: LG Research Building, Room #101

    Host

    : Prof. Jae Koo Lee (T. 2083)

    ▣ Abstract :

    The

safety on human body against electromagnetic fields radiating from mobile

devices has been investigated for along time.

The measurement method of RF power absorption to human body from wireless

devices usually adopted robot scanning in

the phantom in the past. But it takes a very long time to evaluate the SAR

value of a mobile device. In this paper, a quick SAR measurement system using a

2D array of E-field probes having 3 axes isotropic characteristics is proposed.

It is possible to fast estimate the volume SAR by a software with the 2D

surface SAR data acquired by arrayed probes deleting robot moving time.

    Host

: Prof. Jeong Soo Lee (Tel.

    2380)

    ▣ Abstract :

    As

the conventional memories scale down dramatically, the development of DRAMs has

faced many technical problems and challenges to meet the requirements of the

performance such as static refresh and driving current of cell access

    transistor.  Many researchers have made

great efforts on those issues and tried to develop novel concepts in

memory devices to overcome physical limitations. Among several alternative

memory concepts, one of the most promising devices is STT-MRAM (Spin

    Transfer Torque- Magnetoresistive Random

Access Memory) to replace conventional memories due to

its speed, cost and data retention. In this talk, I

will introduce STT-MRAM as a prominent emerging memory

and review STT-MRAM in accordance with the replacement of DRAM and new

applications. The basic operation of STT_MRAM will be explained

compared to conventional memories such as DRAM and Flash memory. Along

with the process integration of STT-MRAM, some design issues are also

    discussed.
