POSTECH Department of Electrical Engineering Professor Wonbin Hong’s research team produced a reflector that stably transmits 5G radio waves to the receiver by adjusting the reflection angle of radio waves using paint and held a demonstration.

Prof. Bumman Kim "2023 IEEE MTT-S Microwave Application Award"
Prof. Bumman Kim(professor emeritus) received the 2023 IEEE MTT-S Microwave Application Award for the creation of microwave amplifications for wireless applications.
Prof. Bumman Kim received the B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering from Seoul National University in Korea and Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He joined the Central Research Laboratories, Texas Instruments Incorporated, where he was involved in development of GaAs power devices and related MMICs. He developed the first fully integrated millimeter-wave MMIC and the semiconductor based oscillator operation over 100 GHz. In 1989, he joined the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), where he was Dean of academic affairs, Dean of graduate school, Namko Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Director of the Microwave Application Research Center funded by Department of Defense. He was continued in his research work on device and circuit technology for RFICs and power amplifier. His group contributed to the Doherty amplifiers, ET amplifier, and CMOS PAs for mobile communication systems. He has authored over 500 technical papers in international journals and conferences. He is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). He is a member of Korean Academy of Science and Technology and National Academy of Engineering of Korea. He retired from POSTECH in February 2017.

Prof. Wonbin Hong elected IEEE Fellow
Prof. Wonbin Hong of the Department of Electrical Engineering has been elected as an IEEE Fellow effective January 1, 2023. His distinction is the first in the field of antennas in the Republic of Korea.
The IEEE is the world’s leading professional organization, dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Today, the organization has more than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries. IEEE Fellow is a distinction reserved for select IEEE members whose extraordinary accomplishments in IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation. The distinction is awarded to fewer than 0.1$ of voting members annually and requires the member to have conducted research with major societal impacts that extend outside their specialty.
Prof. Wonbin Hong was selected for his “for contributions to millimeter-wave mobile and base station antennas”.
